Ryan's Story ❤️

I have been sober since November 22, 2025

I have never been able to drink like everyone else and I feel like I knew that deep down pretty early on. I cannot drink alcohol any longer. This is apart of my identity, but it does not define who I am moving forward.

I had mentioned years ago that I felt like I had a disease when I would drink, basically admitting to alcoholism without even realizing it. I struggled with it in high school and even more into college but It really took control over my life for my final 2-3 years at school and I generally stopped caring about everything. Stopped taking care of myself stopped going to school, didn’t even care to train anymore, I started to think I wasn’t going to be here much longer anyway, so what was the point. I had incidents before where I probably should’ve called it but didn’t because I knew the challenges that would come with that major change. I wasn’t going to hear anything from anybody about how much I was drinking, i also had a feeling that my head had to be in it to make that change, but even still I thought I was in control, I thought I had it all figured out.

On November 22nd of 2025 I had my final drinks, I took it too far again and ran into oncoming traffic, without a care. Luckily I was safe and made it home that night thanks to my brother and some friends. The next morning was a the final wake up call where I realized what every had accumulated to, I sat down with my family and decided I was not going back to school in person and I was done drinking for good, it felt like a weight off my shoulders - probably the biggest relief of my life.

I am coming up on 11 months sober at 22 years old. I am in the best shape of my life, I just competed in my first 100% natural bodybuilding show. I am graduating from UofSC in December. I couldn’t be happier and I couldn’t be more grateful. Everyday, I am excited to be alive and get a chance to try again. I go to bed so fired up to wake up the next day and after feeling so down for so long, this new way of life is so exhilarating and so insanely fulfilling.

The main point I want to make here is that if you want something bad enough you’ll do anything to make it happen. If you “can’t” do something, it’s because YOU don’t want to, stop making excuses, stop blaming other people, it’s YOU. Get up and make a change, start small and be consistent. Your mentality will grow slowly overtime until your mind is bulletproof and you’re unstoppable. Especially for those that know me personally, if I could get myself out of that hole anyone can. You have to respect yourself and want more for yourself and your life.

Hopefully with this I can inspire at least one person to make a change, or be better for themself and their friends and their family.

Lastly I want thank my family and friends for being the best support system ever, none of this would have been possible without them!
